The difference between BloomStar FluxShield 450C and 450E

The grow LED market can sometimes be quite confusing. Between the many figures, data, and facts of individual lamp models, it's easy to lose track. The FluxShield 450C and FluxShield 450E models from BloomStar, in particular, often cause confusion. But how exactly do these models differ, and does the price difference of almost 50 Euros justify buying the more expensive model?

Many growers, myself included, have waited a long time for the FluxShield 450 series. The combination of integrated Samsung and Osram LED chips offers arguably the best light distribution and light spectrum on the market for areas up to 70x70 cm. The light efficiency per watt is also unsurpassed, making these models among the best lamps currently available.

The main difference: The toggle switch for Far-Red on the FluxShield 450C

Let's get straight to the point: The decisive difference between the two models lies in a small but significant detail. With the FluxShield 450C, a Far-Red component can be added using a toggle switch, which triggers a significant bloom boost. The FluxShield 450E, on the other hand, does not have this toggle switch.

Does that make a realistic difference?

This question is difficult to answer, because in my opinion, many gardeners are not able to fully exploit the technical possibilities of both lamps. Before focusing on the finer points of lighting, about 80% of gardeners should first learn how to properly water, fertilize, and train plants. Only then can the full benefits of the extended light functions truly be utilized.

Which model should you choose?

If the budget is limited, I would clearly recommend the BloomStar FluxShield 450E. At a price of just under 215 Euros, it's a real bargain. The model offers excellent performance and efficiency, which is completely sufficient for most gardeners.

However, if you plan for the long term or already have a lot of experience in plant cultivation, you should opt for the FluxShield 450C. The switchable Far-Red spectrum is like the cherry on top – not absolutely necessary, but a very useful feature. Plants and their terpene profile benefit from this additional light source and may achieve even better results.

Conclusion

Both models in the FluxShield 450 series offer outstanding performance and are among the best LED grow lights on the market. The main difference lies in the additional Far-Red option of the 450C, which can be advantageous for advanced gardeners. For the average grower, however, the 450E is perfectly sufficient and offers excellent value for money. Ultimately, the decision depends on your specific needs and budget.
